To producing young embryo on nutritient mediumis called
embryo culture. Development on medium into a seedling from a developing seed.
Older embryos are easily cultured in a lab rather than young embryo.
Advantage of embryo culture are as follows :
1: Some
species of plant having seed dormancy so it cannot be developed the plant
naturally so these embryos are escaping their dormancy by culturing on a
suitable medium .
2: Hybridization
of barley and wheat with hordeum bulbosum is rise to produce haploid plant of
barley and haploid of heat respectively. Wheat haploid plant can be

through culture of hybrid embryo of wheat x maize cross .
3: In many
plants in some cases endosperm is degenerate and which is not able to give
nutrition to young embryo , such embryos can be detached from the seed and keep
into the nutritive media and it takes its nutrition from medi and develops a
new seedling which is able to grow outside the labs.
4: Embryo
culture of orchids applied for the rapid clonal propagation because are not
having any form of food storage medium.
